Since resolving an issue with my ATI Video Driver recently, I have started getting the following errors, once a day, which cause my system to restart unexpectedly.

I believe this to be a driver issue, even though it looks like a hardware issue.

When it happens, I am usually watching TV on it via my XBOX Media Center Extender.

Event ID 20 - WHEA-Logger

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Component: AMD Northbridge

Error Source: Machine Check Exception

Error Type: HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error

Processor APIC ID: 0

My Computer is a Dell XPS 7100 with an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor and ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics adaptor.

All Dell diagnostics run cleanly and successfully.

Can anyone advise what to do to investigate further please?

    I've been banging my head against the desk for almost three months now with this issue.  Thank you so much for finding a fix, though!

    I do like the analogy about an extreme fix for headaches... though this fix has cured one of my own, that's for sure.  I also agree AMD and Microsoft really should have found an actual fix for this by now.  C'est la vie.  I'm just happy to no longer live in fear of this issue.  A few weeks ago, the crash happened during an update, and I couldn't even boot to Windows in Safe Mode or to the command prompt.  Such a hassle.  Glad I make backups.

    After that, I wiped the drive and started from scratch, only for it to reboot again.  With the fastboot disabled, though, so far so good.  Thank you again!  I have no idea how fastboot and the AMD Northbridge would be connected.  Maybe someday we'll know.

    Yup I saw that and I'm grateful for the guys who found that workaround but disabling a feature hardly qualifies as a fix, it's kind of beheading to cure headaches.

    I posted a feedback in the "windows feedback" app with that thread's title but I can only do it for the french support, you guys should do the same and upvote it to the top so microsoft sees it and and provides a permanent fix.

    But you got the fix yes?  Disable Quick Start Up in Power Options

    Bumping this thread to let microsoft know. Crazy there's no fix as of yet, I was about to send my apu into warranty.

    my specs:

    -A10 7850k

    -getting the issue since black friday.

    I used to never update my pc, but since I bought my WMR  headset and had to install the fall creator's update I now have these sudden error 20 crashes, so I second you guys: the update is the culprit there.

    Hello,

    Yes to confirm, my 3 customers have not experienced the restart issue since disabling fast start and fingers crossed, I am not getting the freezing on my FX-6350 PC anymore.
