my laptop running win8 is very slow to load a program and once it has load it is extremely slow.

As per the query description, the computer is performing at a slow rate as it takes more time to load certain programs.

I would like to gather few information on this issue to help you better:

  1. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
  2. Is this issue specific to any particular program?

If the issue is not specific to any particular program, then, it could some other application or programs, which run at the background, resulting to the slow performance on the computer.

I would suggest you to perform System Maintenance troubleshooter on the computer and check if it fixes the issue.

You can follow the methods:

Method 1:

Please follow the steps to perform System maintenance check to improve performance of the computer:

a) Press Windows and x key together and select Control Panel.

b) Click on **Troubleshooting.**c) Click on View all on the left side panel.

d) Click on System Maintenance and follow the onscreen instructions.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to refer to the link to improve PC performance:

Important: Data available on bad sectors might be lost when chkdsk tries to repair your hard disc.

Method 3:

I would suggest you to boot the computer into Safe Mode and check if you experience slow performance.

    Rick - Agreed but what if MS buys the judge a Mac to rule in their favor?

    I just got a message from Win 8.1 telling me it took too long to start. NO ****!

    The other thing I love is there are about 100 vendors that are microsoft partners who sell programs that cure Windows 8 problems. Talk about job security.

    I guess I will just install a real OS that works and does not cost $200 you know like Linux.

    I checked with an attorney.  I was advised MS inserted  stipulation that we cannot sue them for their OS poor performance (and so on).  People spent hundreds of dollars so we can keep up with MS software innovations.  Unfortunately. it turns out to be malware (slow performance, hard drive overheats, MS programs crashing).  I already went through one hard drive and it looks like my current hard drive will be burning out soon.  Not to worry, all we need is a Judge who has Windows 8.1 and a clever lawyer.

    Pinaki - My Windows 8 is also running very slow from the moment I turn it on. I have reviewed your questions and I have not installed any new software other than MS Office and have made no changes. I have attempted to check for updates but after 10 minutes was too frustrated to wait any longer. I would hope not to have so many frustrations with an OS that cost $200. I have no idea what I can do at this point other than switch to a free OS.

    My laptop is an Intel Core i7 with 8 GB of memory I would think this would be enough resources for a 64 bit OS, am I wrong?

    Any and all help is appreciated.

    Wow, I've never seen so much **** on one page;

    I have the same problem. Not a few seconds to load a program. It takes minutes. Surfing the web use to be blazing fast. Now, I better have 30 minutes or more. Optimizing the hard drive won't solve that problem. There is no such program called "troubleshoot" in the "Win X" command. And it pisses me off to no end that Microsoft dumped these patches on my computer and I can do nothing about it. Just loading THIS page took a LONG time. . Oh yea, please don't blame my connection speed. Once loaded, it shows over 16Mbs speed. Also, no malware or virus's. Clean but REALLY slow.
