my laptop running win8 is very slow to load a program and once it has load it is extremely slow.

As per the query description, the computer is performing at a slow rate as it takes more time to load certain programs.

I would like to gather few information on this issue to help you better:

  1. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
  2. Is this issue specific to any particular program?

If the issue is not specific to any particular program, then, it could some other application or programs, which run at the background, resulting to the slow performance on the computer.

I would suggest you to perform System Maintenance troubleshooter on the computer and check if it fixes the issue.

You can follow the methods:

Method 1:

Please follow the steps to perform System maintenance check to improve performance of the computer:

a) Press Windows and x key together and select Control Panel.

b) Click on **Troubleshooting.**c) Click on View all on the left side panel.

d) Click on System Maintenance and follow the onscreen instructions.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to refer to the link to improve PC performance:

Important: Data available on bad sectors might be lost when chkdsk tries to repair your hard disc.

Method 3:

I would suggest you to boot the computer into Safe Mode and check if you experience slow performance.

    Microsoft is deliberately making it so that you cannot get updates for Windows 7 or Windows 8! All updates no longer work. They want you to pay to change to go to Widnows 10-which we all know has spyware regardless of the double speak gobbeldygook they spurt out. Time to look into Linux.

    It's too bad because I like Windows but there is no way that I can update my Windows 8 and Windows 7 since like 6-8 months...both stopped working at the same time and I tried everything. There is no way to enable updates.

    It just keeps earching and searching forever...I left it overnight and nothing.

    Most people make the mistake on clicking everything and shutting it down before it gets a chance to load (I am not calling anyone out, i even done it myself when i was little)  That could also be overprocessing, still run the Antivirus of your choice and clean it up before you run it.  If you experience more problems, seek Microsoft.

    Got a question (my girlfriend's computer experiences the same problem)

    Does it show the block images and no icons in the "Block Menu" (cant remember the screen type) or Desktop view not showing app icons at all?

    If so, you are experiencing a computer system lag.  Try turning it on completely like normal, let it load overnight (especially if you turned it off when it was trying to load) This makes the computer work supremely hard to try to remember previous commands and often will fix itself.

    After you let it load overnight or a long period.  Run any Antivirus program (before you run anything else) in this order:

    -Run antivirus (you could have caught one while downloading anything)

    -Run Cleanup (to rid unwanted files)

    -Run Defragment (to clean up system files and to organize to run better)

    This will clean up any viruses and unwanted files that can cause the hard drive (and any other hardware or software associating with system load time) a long time to load, and organize the system files better.  There is one Antivirus that I really like and its called BitDefender, it can also cut some load time by canceling unwanted background programs you rarely used (not like system files, like your email notifications and all fancy programs)
