Photos App in 8.1 loses most of its best features e.g. Facebook/Flickr support...

Hi Jordan,

The Photo app displays all the pictures that are included in the pictures Library. If you want to add pictures that are saved in other locations, you can just include them in your pictures library and it will automatically added to the Photo app. Just right click on any folder that you would like to add and select “Include in Library” and then select “pictures”. Now, this folder will be automatically displayed in the Photo app.

You can also add new folders in the Photo app if you need to categorize the pictures in s different way. Right-click anywhere on the photo app to get the app bar at the bottom of the screen. Click on “New Folder” to create a new folder.

Please fix the pictures app so that I can look at any folder that contains pictures, like my SkyDrive Pictures folder; maybe even add a feature that will allow you to add folders to the app. In its current state, the app is pretty much useless.

Thanks for the feedback, everybody.  In Windows 8, we wanted to provide a way for folks to view their photos on other services knowing there would be few (if any) apps in the store at launch that would do so.  Now there are many apps in the store that offer ways to view photos on other services and soon there will even be a Facebook app from Facebook.  We’re confident Facebook will offer great ways to view and engage socially with photos on Facebook.  We welcome Flickr to do the same.  In addition, the People app still offers the ability to socially engage with your friends and even your own photos.

Most people have photographs scattered over all manner of services and devices.

 

Please tell me how in Microsoft's wisdom, by forcing people to find their photos on different apps, is this more intuitive, more convenient and just more sensible than having a central, one-stop place to access all your photos???

 

Or are we missing something here? Is it a case of appeasing Facebook over your users?

 

I don't buy your explanation. It's actually quite disingenuous; Windows Phone has a similar Photos app/hub with the same functionality. I don't recall Microsoft removing this integration from their phone OS.

 

 

Well, they did remove functionality back then as well. Win the 7.5 mango update I lost the ability to see skydrive photos that others had shared with me. Ironic, they kept Facebook but dropped skydrive. Effing crazy.

I agree with all of the other replies to this appalling idiotic statement.

I cannot believe that Microsoft would go to all of the effort to remove useful features from an App. I spent a lot of money on a Surface Pro 128GB, and really don't want it becoming far less usable when 8.1 is released.

To expect their customers to download multiple apps to view photographs is insane. Even worse that you cannot easily view your own networked photographs.  I have too many to put onto my Surface Pro, and would like to be able view all of them, from all major sources, in a single integrated app.

What is Microsoft up to these days, this along with the ending of the TechNet subscription service (long time subscriber) makes me look even harder at switch away from Microsoft to Apple.
