Network printer shows offline on Windows 8

Original Title: I have hp laserjet 1020 plus printer installed on win 7 it was a share printer when i was giving any print from win8 pc printer is going to offline & when i remove & add printer its working

i was installed win8 latest drivers on all pc

I would like you to add few information:

Did you make any hardware or software changes on the computer prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to make sure that all the cables for the printer are connected properly and the printer is turned ON. Sometimes, offline status for a printer could be due no power to the printer.You also need to make sure that network sharing might be turned off.

If all the basic settings are checked and are up to the mark, you can follow the methods to troubleshoot the issue:

Method 1:

Method 2:

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the printer.

You can follow the steps to do so:

Note: Please make sure that you have the setup file for the driver of the printer before uninstalling the current version.

a) Press Windows and x key together and click on Device Manager.

b) Locate the printer driver and expand the driver icon.

c) Right click on the driver icon and click on Uninstall.

d) Follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the driver.

e) Locate the setup file of the driver for the printer.

f) Double Click on the setup file and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall the driver.

Check if you are able to find the printer online.

I had this problem on my laptop with windows 8.1 where the printers would appear offline and nothing seemed to help. This happened on 2 of my brother brand printers which worked from any other computer in my house. I called a printer support company and they said the "services on my computer are corrupted" and they tried to charge me $100 for them to fix it but my services are not corrupted.

What I did to fix this was simple and hopefully it will work for someone else. What I did was open the "file explorer" then click on "network" and I had to turn back on my home networking. This made both of my printers show up online again and work flawlessly.

For printers that are connections to shared printers and the client is Windows 8.1, the fix was released today.

The only thing that fixes it for me is:
1. Go to devices and printers dialog
2. Right click the printer and select Printer Properties (not just Properties)
3. Click the Ports tab
4. Find the port the printer is on, select it and click Configure Port...
5. Change the IP address in the second field labelled "Printer Name or IP Address"

It seems that Microsoft has the opinion that the issue is with the printer, the cabling, the drivers, ..... anything but their operating system. You would think that with all their resources that they could generate a product that at least core functions would work ---- or make them work in a timely fashion.

Linux is a free community --- free product --- and core functionality are typically flawless --- or fixed quickly when the rare occasion happens where there is a problem.

Windows 8.1 --- clean install --- updates done --- all printers go offline --- stop and start spooler empties the queue and then printer is back offline.

In a business environment (other than at Microsoft) removing and reinstalling a printer every session is not a solution or even a workaround ---- neither is restarting the print spooler for each and every print job.

Hopefully a solution is coming soon.
