Windows 8 continously loses wifi connection

Hi,

I am about to completely lose my wits with this. We all know Windows 8 is not user friendly by a long shot. In the beginneing I thought it was my brand new way too expensive Asus Zenbook that was the problem. I have this computer:

ASUS ZENBOOK U500VZ 15.6" WQHD+

GeForce GT650 2GB,Core i7-3632QM,8GB RAM,2x256GB SSD,Windows 8

It runs Windows 8.

Since I got it it has had a problem with dropping the wifi connection.

The steps taken to resolve it are:

Change settings in Power Plans

Changed adapter settings under "Power Management"

Run -> ipconfig /flushdns

All other laptops and iPads and iPhones running on the routers are fine. Problems persist on OTHER wifi networks as well, and from searching the web I can see this is a COMMON problem with Windows 8. HOW to fix this? Does Microsoft NOT realise it's customers would like to be able to use the internet without losing connectivity...

    I am having the same problem and have tried the suggested fixes to my new laptop.  All other products/devices are working fine.   Are there any fixes that work.

    remarkable...

    I've bought a new laptop in part because I was having similar issues with my windows 7 machine (i.e. wifi randomly dropping out). I've seen a lot of windows 7 user with the same problem.

    The most annoying thing about it is that one can easily solve the acute problem by just disable-enable the wireless adapter or use the troubleshooter (which is doing the same thing btw), but it's impossible to find a systematic solution. I've tried it all what's been posted on fora; boot in safe mode and re-install drivers, change power saving settings, fix set the gateway,... in my case, nothing has worked and I gave up.

    So, for as long as I could cope, I was disabling & enabling my wireless adapter every time it happened (could be several times per hour, could be fine for a full day, it's totally random it seems). I even switched back to nineties technology using ethernet when I could not afford loosing connection. Can you picture it?, a long grey cable in my living room with 2 young children playing around. :)

    My old laptop getting old and tired of not finding a solution for this problem, I bought a new one, with windows 8. You can imagine the horror I felt earlier this week when I was experiencing the same wifi problem on the very first day I have this wonderful, powerful new machine...

    I cannot understand at all this problem has not been solved in windows updates already. The first post of this thread is over 6 months old. By now Microsoft must know this is a serious issue experienced by A LOT of customers. I've searched but have not found ANY official communication from Microsoft on the issue. I'm completely baffled. What is going on? OK, I can imagine this is not easy to solve, but hey Microsoft, you're risking loosing a lot of customers here. The least you can do is acknowledge the problem and try to save your customer base!

    I think you have been very very patient with this situation and have refrained from rants as long as humanly possible. :)

    Lots of courage and do know I feel your pain, as do many more users, I'm sure! :)

    FYI, I lost my internet connection 3 times when writing this post; luckily I've made it a habit of writing offline in word first. I've lost too many forum posts on this issue already... :)

    I think your reply helped me to solve this problem. Actually I unckecked this box about 5 months ago on my new ASUS Vivobook S200E and didnt think of it particularly much as I had the impression that my WiFi connection worked good. When I was forced to use a new WiFi-router by my ISP I realized that the connection was slow and was interrupted now and then.

    When I checked the Power Management it had changed so the box that say "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" was checked !! I know that I havent checked this myself so the only explanation I can think of is that it has been checked again when Microsoft has updated my Win 8.1.

    So it might be important for those of you who can solve this annoying problem like this to check the setting every time you have had a Microsoft 'Update'. Even better of course : Can Microsoft try not to change the setting for the WiFi Power Management when you add Updates to Win 8 and 8.1. Thanks in advance !
