How do I get my Google Calendar events to show in the Calendar app in Windows 8?

    It's easy, it will go directly to your Google Calendar (no login required if you stay logged in to Gmail or other Google service all the time, as I do), and it's customizable.

    1. Navigate to your Google Calendar (making sure you are logged in) in your browser, and create a shortcut to this page by dragging the tiny icon next to the left of the URL to the desktop. 
    2. Rename the desktop shortcut as you want it to appear on the tile: "Google Calendar" for example.
    3. Change the icon (right click--> Properties--> Change Icon) to something you like.
    4. Copy and Paste the desktop shortcut to the following directory:  C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    5. Go to Metro screen and find the tile (it may be all the way on the right, or in "All Apps" [Win 8.1]). Drag it wherever you want it, or "Pin to Start.". Test it: clicking it should your default browser (hopefully Firefox) to your Google Calendar page.

    You can delete the desktop shortcut afterwards if you wish- it will not affect the tile you created. However, to change the tile's icon, you will need to change it on the desktop shortcut, and re-copy the shortcut to the directory noted above. The background color of the tile is NOT controllable (yet), and will likely be the predominate color of whatever icon you chose. (It's a Windows thing, of course.)

    How have you done this? Is it just a link to the login page so each time you select it you have to enter your username and password which would still be clunky, or is there a way to make it more seamless?

    @IOG-IRL  I was also very irritated by this when I got my Win8 machine several months ago. My "solution" was to create a new tile on the Metro screen, linking directly to my Google Calendar via web browser. Easy to do, and you can find/use a nice calendar icon on the tile.  New Google calendar events sync instantly with my Android tablet app.

    The calendar feed issues will probably be all sorted out within a few years, LOL...
