Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    Luckilly they called me too. I'm police in the u.k. so all hands on for catching them. Sri Lanka based scam.

    Hi, guys. I just received a call from someone saying he's with microsoft tech support because I have a virus from hackers.

    He told me go to run>cmd> and type assoc to see my clsid. he said this was like a special serial number code that they have that's unique to my computer.

    Then he told me to go to event viewer and look at all the errors because those were from a viruses.

    Later they asked for a credit card "master or visa". It sounded like an indian accent, but what do i know? She said she was from california. At the end she asked me to call the support number for visa and ask them to allow an international transfer of money of $380 to be converted to singaporean money. Maybe they are based in singapore.

    This Ammyy Scam came through to me, by way of MagicJack.com to hook up my internet or new computer to new MagicJack.com account.

    This AMMYY guy was a true con man.  I did allow the man to enter my computer system online.

    Am I in trouble?

    I can not get my MS Defender to start up on the new MS 8.

    Can you help me?

    If you called Majicjack for help and the tech used Ammy to connect to your PC and then also tried to upsell you on other services, no, it isn't likely that you are in trouble. You can change your passwords and run a full scan if you want to be sure.

    Use one or both of the following:

    Try Malwarebytes Antimalware (free version, do not

    Try SuperAntispyware

    Free version - http://superantispyware.com/download.html

    With Defender on Windows 8, if the new PC came with other security software or of the tech you worked with from majicjack installed some other security software, then Defender would be disabled.
