I fixed it.
The problem is caused by Windows Store app accessing internet through IPv6 connection.
IPv6 can be disabled by unchecking IPv6 in your network adapter settings.
If the problem still exists, try changing the DNS servers.

Suddenly when I try to open the Windows 8 Store App instead of taking me to the store the green App loading screen flashes up and then it takes me to my start menu. I can hover my pointer over the upper left hand screen and see the app is there but when I switch to it I am get the flash of green app loading screen and then right back to my start menu.
I have found some similar issues on the forums but none of their fixes have worked for me.
This is a Windows 8 PC, not a tablet.

Hi James,
I understand that the Window Store app is not working.
1. Are all other start screen apps work correctly?
I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to resolve the issue with Windows Store.
Method 1: Please change the resolution and check if that helps.
a. Press Windows + x, Click or tap Command Prompt (Administrator).
b. Go to command prompt, type desk.cpl.
c. Please change the resolution of the screen to 1366*768.
Method 2: Run the Modern User Interface App troubleshooter and check if it helps.
Please go through the following link for troubleshooting.

Dear Microsoft,
It appears abundantly clear that this thread is either too short for a real response or that there simply is no answer to the underlying questions. There is a problem with the "Apps" or "Tiles" functions in windows 8.
I am running a newer Samsung windows 8 PC and was very happy windows 8 until resent Microsoft updates. One month ago every app ran fine. Factory loads from Microsoft, Samsung, and a few additions that I'm sure meet your approval. Weather.com, Facebook, Linked IN, E-Bay, Amazon, etc...
There are no unorthodox loads on my PC, yet the App store is broken inexplicably and I cannot update any apps now or open any apps now. I have tried every method you have posted here in this thread.
I, like many others here refuse to re-load a factory loaded machine that clearly functions in every other manner except for what windows 8 was built for in the first place (Apps, Tiles).
What's wrong with this picture.
Very Disappointed,
BM
BTW.
If I try to log in with my live mail account I cannot get "trust this PC" to configure, and yep gone through all the stages to try and make that work too.
I'm convinced that the app are checking the account registered with the store app and are getting a clash.
I seem to remember that after a recent update I was forced to change my password as it now has to contain both alpha and numeric digits
I'm joining the "why should I reinstall because Microsoft cannot be bothered to help us sort this". Have added third party software to create start bar and run my laptop like windows 7 (just peeved I wasted so much money on a touchscreen).
Windows 8 ..... no mouse, no keyboard, NO DAM GOOD
I gave up and just created another user on my computer and that solved the problem (created a few other ones but that's another story)
We can only hope that the new upgrade will solve these issues. I have to assume that Microsoft is getting the word about these issues (but who knows)
Yep, another victim here, Apps that are on my desktop and pinned to metro start are working fine. all apps that are only available on my metro start screen are not working including the store app are not working.
You can create a new account and apps will work again but you are missing all the apps that have gone on with new software.
All this happened after following update from Microsoft.
Well done Microsoft..... no wonder I'm spending more time on my Ipad these days
