Installed this today, it caused my Poppeeper to be flagged with a -1000 error. Rolled computer back and problem cured. Have hidden update until i know what to do.

YMMV but...

...Microsoft is aware of an issue some customers are experiencing when installing KB2670838 on certain laptop systems with hybrid graphics. We are looking into the situation and are considering blocking the update for systems that could be affected. Customers who are experiencing issues on systems that already have installed the update should consider uninstalling KB2670838.

In the near future (one assumes), Microsoft should begin offering home users (only!) no-charge support for IE10 install and uninstall issues. You also may be eligible for the support if an IE10-related issue causes your computer to crash or if IE10 does
 not let you browse all sites. For now, however, you're on your own so you're best bet is to hide IE10 (*and KB2670838 IMHO*) & stick with IE9 for the time being.

    In November 2012 it was not offered through Windows Update. It was offered to me for the first time on 27 February 2012. However, I chose to install and it has not noticeably  changed anything, which is a different experience to that of many others.

    Your remedial measure of using System Restore is not one I would recommend. Next time you have a similar situation this is how I would handle it.

    The correct way to remove an installed update:

    To hide the update to prevent it reinstalling select Start, All Programs, Windows Update, Check for Updates. When the list of available updates appears right click on KB2670838 and select Hide.

    You can let Microsoft know your feelings about the latest update by using the Feedback option towards the end of the Article. They can respond to helpful comments in a positive manner!

    Although this update has been available for months, my PC (Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit) didn't have it until two evenings ago.

    Windows Update applied it when I shut down even though I have my settings to "check for updates but choose when..."

    I wasn't aware this update had been applied since I wasn't in front of my PC when I shut it down and also when I turned it on (as I was making coffee & on the phone in the next room).

    I noticed right away Aero was "broken".  Many graphics programs that use graphics card acceleration (i.e. Photoshop CS6) complained and/or refused to work properly or at all.

    I thought it was a virus.  After spending all morning and most of my afternoon trying to figure out what was going on, it had occurred to me to check if an update had been shoved down my PC's throat (not the first time, despite my Update settings).  Indeed, that's what had happened.

    System Restore rollback, and hid update after that.  But what if System Restore hadn't restored properly (it does happen)?

    Anyway, I don't use IE at all, and after this fiasco I won't be upgrading to IE10 on Win7, since apparently this update is essential for IE10, and it breaks other browsers.  Nice going.  No thanks.
