Click Start (Press “Windows Key + Q” to open Charms Bar.)

Type: cmd

Right click on cmd in start menu and select 'Run as Administrator'

Type: net stop wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

Hit Enter

Type: net start wuauserv

Hit Enter

Type: exit

Hit Enter

Attempt to download updates

    got "access denied" when I tried to do this step: "Type: ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old"

    I'm in the administrator account, using the Administrator Command prompt. I don't understand why I got access denied.

    Is this for windows 8?? I cannot seem to find the command “Windows Key + Q”, if yes then whats the process in windows 7 ultimate to trouble shoot this problem?? If not then how am I supposed to bring up that “Windows Key + Q” command??
