Lumia 800: Speaker problem, no sound.

Hello,

I have encountered a problem with my Nokia Lumia 800.

After I turned the speaker volume down to 0 before I went to bed, the speaker stopped working. I noticed this when I overslept for work because the alarm clock on the phone did not give any sound. I thought maby it was intended when the volume was stillt down to 0 (although it would be silly), but I found out when I had turned the volume up and the phone rang, there was no sound.

It turns out the sound does not work no matter what happens, incoming calls, alarms, playing music, etc.

I have tried to restore phone to factory settings, but with little success ...

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is it a known software issure or sould I consider the phone defective?

    Hi. This is an old question but I had this same problem this morning. No sound in apps, calls, music. I held down the search button to ask Cortana to find a solution. As soon as Cortana started up my sound came back and is working for everything. Hope this helps anyone else who encounters this problem. I have a Lumia 630

    I have the Nokia Lumia 710 and had the same earpiece, speaker problem.  No sound incoming or outgoing.  Another person using my phone opened a music media player application while using their earphones -- that's when the problem occurred.  I cleaned out the earphone jack with a toothpick and compressed air and looked inside to make sure nothing was blocking connectivity inside the jack.  I plugged in and unplugged the earphones from the handset a few times, ran the WP audio diagnostics tool and the issue was completely resolved, everything works correctly.

    I put my headphone jack in and out of the headphone port a couple of times and it restored my sound to the ear speaker. Easy as that

    I had same problem ... used the toothpick method above (thanks !) to gently scrape around phone jack, right down to bottom, and actually noticed a tiny scrap of something come out. I thought "no chance that could cause a problem". I followed up with twisting in a bit of cloth to clean inside. Anyway, the combination of the two fixed the problem. It does seem that the phone is unusually sensitive to this sort of upset, so I now insert it into it's case upside down, so phone jack is protected.

    Try this. It worked for me.

    Ok this may sound cavalier, but I had to use drastic measures as I am too lazy to send my phone away. The problem that I found was the headphone jack was not touching the contacts within it.

    Step one- waste 6 hours tearing the phone down cleaning everything

    Step two- reset (don’t because I lost EVERYTHING and that doesn’t help anything)

    Step three- shove aluminium foil down the jack to try and get contact

    Step four last step- I do not recommend this, I spat saliva down the headphone jack to allow the electrical current to contact the necessary elements………..Worked straight away. (i would recomend contact cleaner)
