What does 'possible heap corruption detected' mean, when listed in the Event Viewer?

You do not get guarantees with anti-virus software. All bring their own problems. A lot bolis down to common sense and being cautious.

I use AVG 2012 Free. I have had 2/3  malware infestations over something like 15 years. None brought me down. I have Malwarebytes  and Superantispyware sitting in the background if I have a "scare". I have had one false positive which I reported to AVG and they quickly reflected the rquired change in the Definition updates.

I do currently have a problem in that AVG have issued an SP1 update and the programme will not reflect the update. I intend to uninstall and reinstall over the weekend and expect to fix it. Although the free version is supposed to be unsupported I am getting help from AVG Technicians through their forums.

AVG does, however, have it's critics. I am not convinced as it has served me well over the years.

I have never used Avast but it is well thought of by some  of the other regular contributors to these forums.

A lot of users have recently put their trust in Microsoft Security Essentials. This is another programme I have never used.

In conclusion I suggest that you stay away from Norton and McAfee. Based on my experience of troubleshooting computer problems, users of the security programmes from these two software providers seem to have more than their fair share of problems.

I am very tempted to ditch Pand IS, but am wary of using AVAST/AVG Free, in case I have the same issue, or that neither detect major viruses.

Panda says that it's working and has detected 158 threats this month alone.  Because this issue has been going on since I installed Panda in 2011, then if there was a virus, then my computer would have given up the ghost by now.

The reason I changed from IS 2011 to IS 2012, is that I couldn't do System Restores; luckily, Microsoft fixed the issue, but the Microsoft tech person told me that Panda IS 2011 could be the reason why I couldn't do a SR in normal or safe mode.

If there was a guarantee that AVG/AVAST free was as good as IS 2102, then I would switch, but i would have to know that neither program would mess up System Restore.

The loss of SR is the reason I don't want to do a complete re-install of Windows. Anyway, I need to buy a new external HD caddy, before I think of anything along the lines of re-install.

That's good in the sense in the sense that one question seems resolved but less good that we still need to find out what is wrong.

Just to let you know, Panda have dealt with the KB 2028210 issue and incorporated it into their products as far back as 2010.

I am now worried that I do have a virus on my computer, even though Panda is working.  I ran TDSS Killer yesterday and that didn't detect any issues.

Also Panda has detected around 123 network attacks in the last month and if a virus was residing on my computer, then it wouldn;t be working.  Also Panda is a really good program.  Since installing IS 2012 last year, I have used various anti-malware programs, such as Malicious software removal tool, Hitman Pro and Panda Activescan and if a virus had managed to mess up Panda IS 2012, then the other programs would have picked it up.
