It seems impossible to find any new laptop/tablet that complies with WMC's implementation of HDCP. If this isn't fixed soon, only desktops and external monitors will be able to view WMC TV.

This feedback was provided under Windows 7, however action has not been taken to correct this issue for Windows 8 either.
ERROR:
Display driver error – the video playback device does not support playback of protected content.
ISSUE:
Media Center with a CableCard tuner doesn't work at all on DisplayPort, because DisplayPort is not detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center. CableLabs Certifited DisplayPort as HDCP compliant but Media Center still hasn't been updated and it still thinks that it's not compliant.
REQUEST:
Requesting Microsoft to produce a patch so that DisplayPort is detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center.

2013-12-19T04:39:03+00:00 Same exact problem as you and I was very surprised, and now angry to learn that Microsoft has been sitting on this issue for years. I just paid the $10 to get Media Center on it too. Not being able to view protected channels makes the entire $10 worthless to me. At the very least, I will ask for a refund of that. In fact, I am seriously considering returning the Surface Pro 2 itself, even though I like almost every other aspect of it. Philosophically I cannot accept paying $1,000 for a product that is not even capable of one basic function that my 4 year old laptop (being replaced because I can no longer stand the performance) can achieve.

2013-12-15T01:35:59+00:00 I ran into the same problem, but wasn't expecting it. It is with Surface Pro2. It uses DisplayPort technology. Protected content gives the dreaded blue screen error in WMC.

2013-10-24T23:10:21+00:00 MS please fix this issue. It has been years since it was reported (in W7) and you have completely ignored it. I would upgrade to W8 for this one feature alone.
I installed W8.1 last weekend and can confirm play ready is still broken with respect to hdcp over displayport connection. I am really upset MS has been so neglectful on this otherwise great product instead wasting their time on RT and other failures.

2013-10-08T19:30:49+00:00 Please add this patch to Windows 7 and Windows 8 WMC. This issue will continue to compound as the average display resolution increases. A lot of video cards will include a displayport and a dual link dvi output to achieve the ability to power two displays above 1920x1200 (2560x1440 for example). It is downright silly that you can use WMC for playback on the monitor that is attached to the computer with DVI-D but you can't use WMC for playback on the monitor that is attached with displayport when both the monitor and the output protocol are certified HDCP compliant.
If this continues to be an issue I will be moving away from WMC completely and taking everybody I can with me.
