I had the same issue and this fixed it:
Right-click Command Prompt (in Start Menu\Programs\Accessories) and choose
Run as Administrator. Type (or Copy and Paste) the following commands,
pressing Enter after each one:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuwebv.dll
regsvr32 wucltux.dll
Close Command Prompt, and try Windows Update again.
I have done all of the above. OS= Win7 Home Premium, 64bit
- Followed the cmd prompt method as administrator sucessfully stopping/renaming/restarting.
- Uninstalled RAID drivers of which autamatically reinstall after reboot.
- Manually entered the 6x different regsvr32 ****.dll above.
I still get "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running."
As a note it also says it has never had an update and updates were never installed. I have downloaded updates in the past and if I check history I can see them.
I only discovered this problem while trying ti figure out why none of our iphones or ipods are recognised anymore when we plug them in. So I guess there are 2 known problems.
Please help.
