Blurry Text in Windows 8

I did a clean install of Windows 8 RTM when it became available.

The blurry font rendering that plagued the Preview versions has remained.

It is particularly bad in IE10 and Office 2013.

No amount of adjustment with Clear Type tuner helps much.

I have tried all the fixes recommended like ticking "use Software rendering instead of GPU rendering" in IE10 and in Options in Office 2013.

It makes absolutely no difference.

I installed Windows 8 on completely different hardware to check if it was a graphics card issue. The poor font rendering was still there.

I am currently dual booting Windows 7 and 8 on the same PC. Fonts in Windows 7 remain perfectly clear. In windows 8 they are so bad, the OS is basically unusable.

How do I get readable fonts in Windows 8?

Hardware: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO, Intel Core i7 3770K, ASUS Radeon HD7770 graphics, Samsung Syncmaster 2443BW 24 inch monitor.

In Chrome 37.x go to chrome://flags and disable DirectWrite. That's the first thing i did with this update.

    So is there a fix for this anywhere?  I'm running Win8PRO x64 with a nvidia 560ti and it looks awful - http://i.imgur.com/PNBpG.jpg

    Searching google there are so many people complaining about the issue but no fix to be found.

    go to AMD Vision Engine Control Center, right click and open it.

    Then Gaming -> Anti-Aliasing

    Thanks for the idea.   I don't have that one but I do have Catalyst A.I.  which I just disabled and it brought back a lot of detail into my Desktop theme -- Mountain vistas.   FWIW I think that there is still more smoothing going on then there was before I installed the AMD package but it is much better than it was.  Actually I thought that installing the AMD Control Center had helped somewhat with the font problem but I still  have a lot of tweaking that I want to try with it and hopefully get my Desktop theme back to being as good as it once was too.

    I go to AMD Vision Engine Control Center, right click and open it.

    Then Gaming -> Anti-Aliasing

    and there I uncheck "Morphological Filtering"..

    And that's all. I hope this is usefull for you!

    Tried this. Made absolutely no difference.

    IE10 on Windows 8 is still unusable due to the shockingly blurry font rendering.
