Windows 8 Touch Screen not working on my Gateway ZX6971

I have a Gateway ZX6971 all in one touch screen. I recently downloaded the windows 8 release preview  and i cant find anyway to get my touch screen capabilities working again. Is there a way to fix this problem? I tried reintalling the Card Reader Driver and try to open some touch programs in capability mode. Is there anything I can do to do my touch screen back? It worked fine in Windows 7. Any help or advice would be great! Thank you!

Hi ssackfield88,

This issue may be a display driver issue. I checked Gateway's website for available drivers for the ZX6971 and there are no Windows 8 drivers. Use the contact us link here to see when or if drivers will be available to support Windows 8 on your computer.

    The above driver from touch-base do not work, I have the zx6971 computer. From checking the ID info from my device manager, the driver that made it work on win 7 was the Synaptics, however none of them worked when I tested it... :(

    Also gateway.com US site seems to be down...  maybe my end or maybe they are updating info. :)

    It may help if you would tell us how you found that out.

    E.g. your machine's spec's has the same kind of vague wording regarding its Touch implementation as the others

    I had to do a lot of digging to figure it out, personally. The first thing I did was check out the device manager. Windows 8 listed it as a USB Input device. I was able to tell which one it was because I knew it was a USB touch screen. When you look at the properties of a device the location section should say Port_#XXXX.Hub_#**XXXX,**where X is some kind of number. The other possibility I've seen is a ps/2 touch controller, in which case I'm not sure where to find it.

    Anyway, Once you find what you suspect to be the touch screen in your device manager, you could try right-clicking and disabling the device to see if you lose any response from the hardware, if you had any before. Once you know for sure which device is is, go into its properties and navigate to the "Hardware ID's," section, and run a Google search for the ID's. That was enough to identify it for me. 

    Touchbase's website is also a major help for the ZX series, since their drivers support it. Here you can just see if they list your model, and it saves you a ton of time.

    Gateway's website indicates they are working on the problem.  The solution might just be patience.

    No solution so far for this gateway  zx6971 with windows 8 pro upgrade 

    What is the maker of the digitizer?

    Integrated Windows® 7 multi-touch capable optical solution

    does not identify it enough to help you find an appropriate driver.   Are there any clues for it in W7?

    Notice that SmashingSeltzer with another Gateway model knows at least that much for it.

    BTW that description is similar to what an Acer user is given.
