wifi does not have a valid ip configuration windows 8

After upgrading to Windows 8 Final Version

it worked fine for 2 days then, WIFI stoped working.

every time I try to connect it gives me limited connection.

when I try trouble shout it give me the following message :" wifi does not have a valid ip configuration ".

even trying a cable connection, same message appear.

I somehow managed to get on my neighbor WIFI not sure how that happened, but I can only use internet on Desktop mode,

Metro interface have no access to wifi.

I would like to know if you can assist me with this issue?

I was having this problem too. Solved it by following the directions here:

This part in the first reply fixed the problem:

"With upgrades sometimes winsock or the TCP/IP stack gets corrupted. To reset them both type the following two commands into an elevated command prompt one at a timehitting enter after each one then reboot the system.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)"

    This response has appeared numerous times and unfortunately has not been helpful. My desktop (home grown) worked perfectly with XP and 7. Now that I've upgraded to Windows 8 I get this messages where my wireless network appears as public versus private. I am able to function if I relocate my PC to the same room as the router and connect via hardwire Ethernet, but I need to have this device located in a separate room connecting via wireless. I've already spent about 7 or 8 hours on this with no success.

    Any other options or alternatives I can try?

    SOLVED: FINALLY!!!!!!! After having a bricked tablet for 4 days, I finally found MY solution.  Trying the netsh commands did nothing for my tablet, but worked great on my laptop.

    I got desperate and started to uninstall things and nothing worked as far as removing network devices, bluetooth, etc.

    The culprit was AVG Internet Security Suite 2012.  I removed that, rebooted and VOILA~ I am up and running on my tablet again.

    Wow, I hope this saves someone some time.  It cost me about 20 hours of tinkering.

    YES IT WORKED THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I've been trying for the last few hours or so and made an account here just to thank you! 

    For myself it was Avast, I had just updated it last night and then this happened. Thanks man I owe you a beer.

    I'm not that good about command prompts or anything too technical but I was having the same issue. which has now been solved. 

    Here's what I did.

    1. Press Windows + X
    2. Select 'Command Prompt (Admin)' from the list that appears
    3. Windows should ask if you want to open this because it will effect your computer (if this advisory warning is not asked then you are not in the Elevated Command Prompt but the regular one), select yes.

    Finally enter the information as written above and reboot.

    Worked like a charm for me. Hope this helped someone.
