wifi does not have a valid ip configuration windows 8

After upgrading to Windows 8 Final Version

it worked fine for 2 days then, WIFI stoped working.

every time I try to connect it gives me limited connection.

when I try trouble shout it give me the following message :" wifi does not have a valid ip configuration ".

even trying a cable connection, same message appear.

I somehow managed to get on my neighbor WIFI not sure how that happened, but I can only use internet on Desktop mode,

Metro interface have no access to wifi.

I would like to know if you can assist me with this issue?

I was having this problem too. Solved it by following the directions here:

This part in the first reply fixed the problem:

"With upgrades sometimes winsock or the TCP/IP stack gets corrupted. To reset them both type the following two commands into an elevated command prompt one at a timehitting enter after each one then reboot the system.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)"

    I have a brand new Samsung laptop with windows 8. First day home after the first startup it would not connect to my Wi-Fi.  I noticed It said limited connection and I would be assigned a 169.254.x.x ip with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 . I had my router set up with WEP after some research I heard if I switch to WPA2 it would fix the problem, and it did until a reset. I read the weird ip could be a DNS issue. In the end I set the laptop to a static ip through my router's DNS options. Which fixed the problem.  Had the same issue with my brothers brand new Toshiba laptop.

    I have recently made the discovery that the problem is that my router is not giving my PC a valid IP address. Any way to remedy this?
