If you're really worried about orphaned registry entries (and there's absolutely no need to be as they have NO appreciable effect on computer performance) then the blame should be laid at the door of third-party software manufacturers who don't provide a proper uninstall routine...

They were invalid entries and shortcuts, that can be more than orphaned entries. And if orphaned entries have no effect, then why is it so difficult for Microsoft to make a utility to remove that junk?

I really don't understand why so many people are trying to find excuses for Microsoft's apparent inability to get their act together and make a utility for registry maintenance.

I you work in the ICT, then the first thing you should know is that you keep everything tidy, clean and well organized. I have learned that in the past 40 years, it really shouldn't be open for discussion.

That was pure coincidence. Orphaned Registry entries have NO EFFECT WHATSOEVER on computer performance. Why would they?

I've read that mantra before. So before Windows 7 it was necessary to clean the registry, but there was no program to do it? And Microsoft is capable to make Windows 7 to ignore bad registry entries, but is not capable to remove them? Please..............

I'm sure that 'a' registry cleaner can cause problems, that's why I'm pointing out that Microsoft should provide one. Or perhaps Microsoft isn't capable of producing a decent one either? That wouldn't surprise me.

For every person that has used a registry cleaner that believes it has done some good, there are far more that have found it creates problems.

The win registry doesn't need cleaning/optimizing and hasn't done so since win 7 was introduced
