How do I finalize a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

Hi:

How do I "finalize" a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

I want to finalize the disk...not just close the session/disk.

From what I have read in Windows Help, "closing" allows me to write to the disk later.

Is this true, if the disk is just R, not RW ?

I have burned JPEG images (.jpg files) to CD-R and DVD+R disks.

When I try to play them in my Sony CD/DVD player, it won't recognize the disks.

Sony's user manual says that the disks must be "finalized", not just "closed".

How do I do that with Windows ?

I treid finalizing these disks with Roxio Creator Basic, but it doesn't do anything, except eject the disks.

Windows still says that the disks have free space, and the DVD player can't recognize them.

From what I understand, if the disk is finalized, the will show no free space available.  Is this correct ?

Note:  The disks work correctly on my HP laptop which uses Vista 32-bit Home Premium.  I can view the JPEG images.

    The "further methods" that you have never needed is actually the fourth word in the original question. Finalize. I realize now, since you've never had to finalize, you believe no one else should ever have to. There are plenty of people here who do have valid reasons to finalize. Just because you can't fathom needs outside of your own, doesn't mean that others don't. Valid reasons have been given in this thread.

    I really can't believe how you don't see that you are NOT answering the question SpiritX...

    Copying a link that says "When you burn a CD or DVD using Windows Explorer, the disc is not finalized" is not an answer to the question asked.

    So please, instead of wasting people time with nonsense answers, either give a real answer or refrain from answering at all...

    I've read four pages of answers and still don't have a resolution to my problem.  I've tried everything that has been suggested and nothing has worked.  When I go to the Start menu and click on Computer and then select the CD drive.  The toolbar does not offer the option Finalize the disk.  If I right click on the CD drive, the pop-up does not offer the option to finalize the disk.  I can still add files to the CD.  I cannot, however, delete or rename files on the CD.  When I click on Properties it shows that there is free space remaining which would indicate the disk has NOT been finalized. 

    So does anyone have any other suggestions?  Preferably ones that work as I've spent about four hours chasing my tail on this issue and getting nowhere fast.  I need to create these disks for a pending lawsuit and definitely don't want anyone to be able to change or add files.  And they have to be able to be read on various other computers.
