How do I finalize a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

Hi:

How do I "finalize" a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

I want to finalize the disk...not just close the session/disk.

From what I have read in Windows Help, "closing" allows me to write to the disk later.

Is this true, if the disk is just R, not RW ?

I have burned JPEG images (.jpg files) to CD-R and DVD+R disks.

When I try to play them in my Sony CD/DVD player, it won't recognize the disks.

Sony's user manual says that the disks must be "finalized", not just "closed".

How do I do that with Windows ?

I treid finalizing these disks with Roxio Creator Basic, but it doesn't do anything, except eject the disks.

Windows still says that the disks have free space, and the DVD player can't recognize them.

From what I understand, if the disk is finalized, the will show no free space available.  Is this correct ?

Note:  The disks work correctly on my HP laptop which uses Vista 32-bit Home Premium.  I can view the JPEG images.

    I haven't tried what he's talking about up there, but that should be finalized by the way he's describing it.  If it reads zero bytes available, then it's done.

    Reading in a player....  That's kind of a different issue.  I've especially had problems with bluerays reading, but it didn't have anything to do with them being finalized.

    I am not saying that this method won't work,

    but...

    just because Windows shows that there are zero bytes free on the DVD does not guarantee that the disk will play in your DVD/BluRay player.

    I have wasted many blank disk seeing these symptoms just to have my Sony DVD/BluRay player tell me that the disks aren't finalized.  And the type of disks that I have used +/-R , +/-RW all have the same results ... not playable, yet the player's User Manual states that these disk types are playable.

    I used windows movie maker extensively in win 7,it was a wonderful tool

    I can still use it and make video`s picture presentations with sound tracks ,But since upgrade to win 10,the facilility to "burn to disc" has gone!!

    I can save it,or upload to YouTube, or maybe even f/book!,but I just want to make a disc for my library

    And to show friends and family

    so My question is,why cant I just do this,like I did in win 7

    To FINALIZE a disk using the explorer, after copying files to the disk, find the Drive Tools option on the ribbon and click Finish burning. Then a pop up will prompt you for a title and click okay. The default title will be the date and there is a box to close the wizard after the burn otherwise the disk will eject and you will have the option of burning the same image on another disk.
