How do I finalize a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

Hi:

How do I "finalize" a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

I want to finalize the disk...not just close the session/disk.

From what I have read in Windows Help, "closing" allows me to write to the disk later.

Is this true, if the disk is just R, not RW ?

I have burned JPEG images (.jpg files) to CD-R and DVD+R disks.

When I try to play them in my Sony CD/DVD player, it won't recognize the disks.

Sony's user manual says that the disks must be "finalized", not just "closed".

How do I do that with Windows ?

I treid finalizing these disks with Roxio Creator Basic, but it doesn't do anything, except eject the disks.

Windows still says that the disks have free space, and the DVD player can't recognize them.

From what I understand, if the disk is finalized, the will show no free space available.  Is this correct ?

Note:  The disks work correctly on my HP laptop which uses Vista 32-bit Home Premium.  I can view the JPEG images.

    Correct !!!

    When Windows finishes "burning" a disk, the disk is not finalized.

    The disk still has to be finalized.   So, the key point is...

    How do I finalize a CD with Windows, once it has been burned ???

    Or...

    Are you trying to say that Windows doesn't have the capability to finalize a disk ???

    Why won't the question get answered? This is so bizarre. How does one finalize a CD or DVD using Windows Explorer? It's really not that complicated a question, but it seems like people are trying to confuse it and avoid the question. Is there some kind of strange politics going on with closing vs. finalizing a CD or DVD?

    I can find no way to finalize a disk with windows 7. Ignoring those answers that confuse "close session" with "finalize", and those that quote the Microsoft article that only tells you that closing does not finalize, I finally managed it.

    Download Ashampoo.

    Take care during installation. It tries to install things you probably don't want.

    I was using a disk that had previously been used. When I formatted with Ashampoo, it failed.

    I formatted ( turn off quick format ) with Windows explorer

    Eject

    Re-insert.

    Use Ashampoo to create disk. Remember to tick option finalize disk ( not a default )

    This finally worked, enabling me to read a CD full of MP3 files on my car's CD player.

    Only took me three days to manage this. Thanks for making it so simple Microsoft.

    Yes...according to the User Manual, the free standing Sony CD/DVD player is JPEG compatible.

    So, how do I make a CD of pictures taken with my digital camera, so that it can be played on the Sony CD/DVD player?
