The Windows start button is not working. When I press it nothing happens. SO I cannot shut down the computer in the normal manner or access any programs other than ones with desktop icons.

Does start menu open if you press the windows key on the keyboard?.
Can you right click the start menu orb and choose properties, if so
In the Customize Start Menu dialog box, click Use Default Settings, clickOK, and then clickOK again.
Also try.
1 . Press Ctrl + Alt+ delete on the keyboard and click on task manager.
2 . Click on the Process tab and locate explorer.exe in the windows and click on end task.
3 . Click on File and then click on New.
4. Type explorer.exe and press enter.

This is very disturbing, Microsoft is responsible for this malware and should make good on it. I still get popup solicitations every day on my home laptop from Microsoft to download version 10. We need to organize to create a stand on this malicious perpetration.
Why is there a community with non-professional computer users trying to come up with a solution? This is ridiculous. I believe Microsoft should take care of this immediately or issue the users their prior systems back. Mine was 8.1 and it was just fine. If they don’t respond with a positive solution the people affected by this system 10 should organize a class action suit.
That was precisely what I have done (going back to Win 8.1) and I don't plan to install Win 10 again. I've spent already too many hours re-installing Win 10...).
If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have acquired the Surface Pro 3. A Mac would do much better for sure.
Microsoft should be ashamed of the quality of this product and the inneficiency of their support services.
I too am totally sick of the bugs in Windows 10. I don't know how Microsoft have the nerve to advertise this as the future of computing. I waited quite a while before I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 thinking (wrongly) that most of the problems would have been sorted, but it seems that after all the years I've been using Windows, nothing has changed... every new version just seems to introduce more and more bugs. As this thread goes back months, I would have thought that MS would have made some effort to fix it and I don't see why I (or anyone else outside of MS) should have to spend hours trying to resolve something which shouldn't be there in the first place!
I'm going to restore back to my Windows 8.1 (assuming my restore point hasn't been corrupted!) and not touch Windows 10 until MS can issue some kind of reassurance that they have actually bothered to properly test things. I work in software development and would have been fired a long time ago if I released things in this poor state!
