How do I add MKV files to the "Video" section rather than the "Other" section of the library?

Copy/paste the following into Notepad, save it as  WMP_MKV.reg , double click this file to add it to the registry, and restart WMP:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

 

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.mkv]

"PerceivedType"="video"

 

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Multimedia\WMPlayer\Extensions.mkv]

"PerceivedType"="video"

"Permissions"=dword:0000000f

"Runtime"=dword:00000007

 

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\MLS\Extensions]

"mkv"="video"

After that, MKV files will be added to  Video instead of to Other media (it might be necessary to re-add the files).

    GoforceReloaded: are the MKV files in the Video section of WMP's library?

    That's the only possible useful suggestion I can make as I have no experience with DLNA. If that doesn't help, you may have more luck posting in the Windows Entertainment and Connected Home forums:

    Hello,

    I have Windows 8 PRO 64 bits and i have the same problem with stream of MKV with WMP12 :/

    I have K-Lite Codec pack installed (32 & 64bits).

    I have WMP12, all my files (.avi / .mp4 / .mkv ...) are in the library.

    I can play my MKV with WMP12 but not on my TV or Xbox 360.

    The MKV are not on my TV with the DLNA ... (with previous installation of Windows 8, all worked fine -_-)

    I see the folders of MKV but not the files :/

    I have tried everything above (.reg with 32 & 64bits), clean the folder media player ...

    Doesn't work at all.

    Can someone please tell me how activate the .MKV stream with WMP12 and DLNA to my TV ?

    I know it's possible because my previous installation of W8, this worked but I don't know how ... :(

    my computer is the server for movies.

    the blurayplayer plays the movies.

    I wanted but no twonky xbmc, or use it ps3mc weill has with the media player works well on win7.

    after instalation of win8 it I still have not managed to configure the media player server properly.

    only the movies were not in the media player but now they're in the bluerayplayer they will not. : (
