Hi All.
I bought a new LifecamStudio 2 days ago. I installed the camera, following the instructions of course. In the end of the installation, I could se my self in the Lifecam software window, so far no problems, the camera worked. Suddenly a popup message appeared, telling me that the firmware of the camera needed to be upgraded, so I pressed OK. The firmware upgrade started but was shortly aborted with an errormessage, saying the upgrade was not succesfull. I tryed to reinstall the firmware, but now it tells me hat I already have the most recent firmware installed. So the nproblem is now that, when I instert my camera into the USB port windows finds the camera, but as soon as I start any program the uses the camera it goes from a Lifecam Icon (in the hardware manager that is) to a unknown unit. The Lifecam studio software tells me that no camera is installed. I have installed the camera on other computers without any luck.

In device manager underneath imaging devices I saw "Webcam" -- before the botched fw update it said "Microsoft LifeCam Studio" and had a diff driver. I rolled back the driver (or if that doesn't work you can force it to use the one inside program files \ lifecam) then re-installed lifecam -- my cam now works. Now -- what's the deal with this update utility and why's it changing what driver the camera uses?
Hi. I had this happen to my camera. The lifecam studio. It happened about 3 months ago. I got a replacement thinking it was a faulty camera. I was quite shocked the new camera didn't already come with the firmware already upto date. Anyway. I went to update the firmware and it happened again (fresh download). And now I'm going to have to get a fix for this.
One solution would be to make it so we can force the firmware to update and ignore the check it does on which firmware is already in the camera. But until that day then Microsoft should take that firmware down as I don't have a USB hub, so none was used while updating firmware. If anyone could modify the firmware so it ignores the check when firmware is already up to date then that might fix the problem and install the firmware again and hopefully not corrupt.
Another note. The camera is seen by all my computers as the lifecam studio, also the mic works with the updated firmware, but as soon as I try use the camera as a webcam, then the lifecam disappears and comes up as unknown device.
Does anyone have a satisfactory answer to this? I have been using my camera for ages, I love it but now I've updated the firmware, it isn't recognised by any machine.
This is crazy. What is the problem Microsoft?
Hi I'm having the same problem. How do you "roll back the driver"? Or force it to use the one inside program files?

When the FW up-date kills the camera, which apparently happens when you attempt to up-grade while using the camera on a hub, then not of the above does any good what so ever.
It is going back in the box it came in.
