Keyboard won't work on laptop

I just woke my laptop up and the keyboard didn't work, every key that i hit typed 5. So I restarted my laptop and now the keyboard won't type nothing. Any answers?

Hi James,

Who is the manufacturer of Laptop?

Are you using external keyboard?

Most of the time when you hit letters you get numbers with laptop and the workaround is to Try hit the Fn Lock key and Num Lock Key,

If your keyboard stopped working completely then you may try the steps below:

Shutdown the laptop and Remove the battery. Hold in the power button for a few seconds. This resets the motherboard. Replace the batter and startup as normal.

If non of the options work then you may with system restore asper the Link below:

    Had this no keys working: removed a link under device properties[keyboard];

    Standard PS/2 keyboard.  then the laptop keys worked ok

    Syed, Dell laptop keyboard came out of hibernation with no keys working so used onscreen keyboard from easy access to type in password. Plugged in usb standard keyboard to search and find this forum.

    Used your directions to reset motherboard and laptop keyboard again is working properly.
