My computer is giving me an error that my printer is out of paper and it is not. It has done this with three different printers.

Disable BiDirectional on the Port tab of printer properties

I know this is an old thread but recently ran into this issue and simply stopping and restarting the Print Spooler service resolved it for me.
Under the "Ports" tab in the Properties page of the Printer check the checkbox of the IP address of the printer and it should be back to normal
Hi Paul,
Glad to know that you have sorted out the issue. Your efforts to resolve this problem is very much appreciated. Please feel free to reply, in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.
Sorry but I have to believe this is either a driver problem that the printer mfr has not addressed or a Win 7 bug. I have the same problem and the only way I can resolve is to reboot. I am using an HP5550 and there is no more recent driver. In my case, the problem starts from a correct "out of paper" status, but if the print job is subsequently deleted from the queue, nothing (including deleting and reinstalling the device) but a reboot will resolve the status. Until reboot, Windows will perpetually see the device as "working correctly" but with status "out of paper".
