Update Windows media player to 2.5.0.1 on Windows 7

I am trying to use the OverDrive Media console but I cannot upload books because it says the security on my windows media player is out of date.  I tried the upgrade tool that is built into OverDrive but nothing happened.  Then I tried the website everyone says to go to (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp) and that did nothing.  The button is not pushable.  I think it has something to do with Windows 7 that is causing the problem.  Any Ideas?

Hi Dsa2402,

a) Do you get any error message when you try to upload/download books?

Currently there is no security update for Windows Media Player.

Check if your Over Drive Media console is compatible for Windows 7. Click here

You may also try the following steps. This may not be a resolution but a possible workaround. ( only if you get the following "error code 0×80070057: The parameter is incorrect for OverDrive media console ” )

  1. Open “Control Panel”.
  2. Open “Folder Options” and select the “View” tab.
  3. Select “Show hidden files and folders”.
  4. UNCHECK “Hide protected operating system files”.
  5. In the warning message you receive, click “Yes”.
  6. Click “OK”.
  7. Close the Control Panel
  8. Click the Start button. In the “Start Search” box, paste the following:

C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

  1. Delete ONLY the following 4 files:

blackbox.bin

drmstore.hds

v3ks.bla

v3ks.sec

  1. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
  2. Go to “Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade”.
  3. Once the upgrade is complete, try downloading a book.

    Let me start by saying it requires you to use internet explorer to use the website.

    Now for what i did to get it so it would upgrade to the 2.5.0.1

    I right clicked on the OverDrive Media consule. Trouble shoot compatiability.(I did this because you cant just right click on it to start it as admin). It should then give you 2 options Try recommended settings/ Troubleshoot program. I picked the 2nd option Troubleshoot program. This should now give you 4 options. I checked The program requires additional permissions. This will now give you the option to Run as administrator. Once you do this it will allow you to save the settings so it will always start this way. After doing that I used the website it recommends for upgrading and it worked fine. I hope this helps.

    The first part is meant just incase someone is just reading the last msg.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Unfortunately taking the computer to the shop isn't an option. I built it myself. I've been building computers for 17 years so, it's not a new thing for me. The problem is that when it tries to acquire the new license, I'm getting an error that indicates that the License Server is failing to send the license. When I access http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=73923 the security update installs correctly but I get a Server Error 500 - Internal Server Error.  A few months back I was able to get this to work without any issues so something on the server seems to have change.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Sorry to here, you have another problem.  As much as I hate to do this, I find if something does not work I take my computer to a pro. 

    On the good side if the computer is new and under warrenty, it gets done for free.

    I can only say, the download worked for me, but the pro at Staples did the download and install.

    Sorry, to say, best to take the computer in.
