Hello,

My computer is stuggling to get internet access, I keep getting this message - Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding).  All of the other computers in my house are connected with no difficulty.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

I resolved the problem.  When my router lost power, somehow the addresses got changed so the IP address of the wireless Dell computer no longer fell in the pool of addresses maintained by the router.  When I reconfigured by router and had released and renewed my IP address on the Dell computer, everything started working again.

Thanks for your help!

    Their final suggested solution was to reinstall Windows 7 and wipe out all the files on my computer.

     Now that you have finally implied what the OS is we can suggest you could try using the W7 troubleshooters.  ; }

    I have been on the phone for hours with AT&T and they have no idea why my DNS server stops responding.  The other laptop in the house is perfectly fine no problems, runs on an older version of Windows.  I am running Windows 7, when the server stops responding I am switching between two different DNS addresses and having it automatically assign, it will work for a period of time and then it's gone and I have to go through the whole process again.  I do not have a mini port wifi adapter, I have tried removing the firewall which makes no difference.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

    I've been using Windows 7 on both my Dell and HP laptops for several months now with few problems.   This morning while using my Dell laptop there was a 3 or 4 second power outage that took down my router and DSL modem, but not my Dell laptop (it was on batteries).   After rebooting my modem and router I was unable to reconnect with my Dell machine but was able to connect with my HP laptop (it was't on during the power outage).

    I can ping the router and other computers on the LAN but can't ping outside IP addresses. When looking at the network site map I can see a connection between my computer and the router but there is a red X between the router icon and the internet icon.  My HP laptop continues to work fine so I'm certain it is not a problem with the router or DSL modem.  I've checked TCP/IP setting between both machines and they are identical.    There is a new network connection icon named "Wireless Network Connection 2" that is said to be a "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" .   I read another posting that said to disable this device but that did no good.

    What should I try next?
