Green check marks on desktop icons

Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

    I still have trouble understand!!!  What do the green check marks mean on the desktop icons? Please explain me expand what it mean?

    As near as I can see ALL the items above can cause them. It seems that this is "the new feature" of many programs that "Synchronize" with the desktop items.

    It all depends on what programs you are using and what they are doing as far as "synchronizing" the desktop is done that causes them to appear. In My case it was "Microsoft OneDrive". In some other cases described it is exactly what those people found.

    Thank you Glenn! 

    I do have Google Drive as well as Backup and Sync.  However, I could not find anything in the File Explorer or Google Drive giving me the option to continuously back up to Google Drive.

    When I turn on the computer the desktop icons often have the white square with the arrow in it in the lower left corner.  That is later replaced by the green check marks.  Do the green check marks simply mean that the files in those apps were backed up or do they mean something else?

    I found that Desktop was in the OneDrive folder and it could not be removed. I solved it by turning off OneDrive and moving the contents of it into "users\My Name\…\Desktop". Then I deleted "\OneDrive\desktop" after which I turned OneDrive back on. Then I made sure that Desktop pointed to the right location (not in OneDrive). The green circles were gone.

    And YES... This happened on my computer right after the 1803 upgrade.
