Green check marks on desktop icons

Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them.  What does it mean?  How do I fix them?

Hi,

Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply.  After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

    I still have trouble understand!!!  What do the green check marks mean on the desktop icons? Please explain me expand what it mean?

    Yes it is annoying and gives information, yet it is VERY annoying and many people want to know from where the arose and how to get rid of an annoyance since the information is available elsewhere.

    Thanks to all---Figured that and was able to eliminate the "cloud", and the green checks.  I really have no desire to use the "cloud".  Thanks everyone for the comments.
