Suddenly all my desktop icons have green check marks on them. What does it mean? How do I fix them?

Hi,
Do you use norton 360? Norton -> Settings -> Backup Settings -> Backup Status Overlays -> OFF -> Apply. After you run your next backup (you can do it manually) the check marks will disappear.

The green check marks popped up for me after installing SKSE for Skyrim.
didn't work for me. What else?
In my case it was Verizon cloud backup showing which files were marked for backup. I suspect others were seeing Xs because a similar program was displaying the selected files/folders to backup.
I had this problem too and refreshing the desk top worked for me thanks!
