Windows 7 and Bose Companion 5 speaker system losing sound intermittently.

I'm using the Windows 7 Ultimate RC, bought the full version, just haven't installed yet.  I also am using Bose Companion 5 speakers.  Asus M3A79-T Deluxe motherboard, and an AMD Phenom II processor.  My problem is this, my speakers work for an amount of time, usually less than a day, then all of a sudden they'll stop working, either in the middle of playing World of Warcraft, watching a video, whatever, all of a sudden they just stop working.  The speakers are still listed as default in the sound settings and are still valid in hardware manager, I can unplug the USB and plug it back in and it shows up as working, etc. but no sound comes out until I reboot the computer.  I am not using a hub and have tried different ports, please help.  I've read around and other people are having issues with the AMD cool 'n quiet function acting up, but mine is off by default in bios, and i've also ran the AMD power monitor, both have no effect, I still lose sound completely and randomly.

None of this works ... the problem still exists.  I thought I had it solved in the power settings ... if you go to advanced there's a spot to turn off USB select suspend settings, it worked for 3 days this time before deciding to just shut off again.  Anything you can do to look into all this would be appreciated.

You are seeing a driver problem, and the only real solution is a better sound driver. You should keep checking for driver updates, if you wish to use the devuice in Win 7.

    Well, I've tried everything here and I am still having trouble with the speakers cutting out.  I'm running Win 7 64 Ultimate, i7.  Everything worked fine since I got them about 6 months ago.  Then, out of nowhere, this.   I would love to start listening to anything again.

    I have a Sony Vaio desktop dual-boot system (XL and Win 7 Pro).  I use IndieVolume to control the output of programs to multiple speaker systems (Companion 5 and built-in Realtec HD).  Media Center TV plays through Bose speakers and default system sounds go through monitor speakers.  If I run any updates, regardless of the source (MS, Adobe, etc) the Bose speakers shut off when the security warning displays after the monitor dims.  When I check IndieVolume it has disabled the speakers due to a bug.  

    The Bose speakers are connected through the HP monitor's usb hub.  Unplugging the speakers from the hub resets the speakers but I have to restart Media Center in order for the TV out to work.  Sometimes when I change tv channels the speakers emit a high-pitch tone and have to be reset by unplugging them from the usb hub, waiting a moment and replugging them in.  Sometimes Bose speakers just stop working for no apparent reason.

    Everything works fine under XP.  Bose tech support told me they and think is is a problem with how Win 7 controls the power of the usb ports and I should switch back to XP.  I changed the advanced power setting for the usb devices as recommended above, run the speakers at max volume and although the speakers continue to work when I change tv channels the speakers still shut off and have to be reset when I run updates.

    Switch back to XP. That's pretty poor advice!
