Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service.

Every so often, 1 in 50, my laptop is very slow to start-up I get the "Please Wait" before the login screen.  Once I do log in I get the error:  

"Failed to connect to a windows service.

Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents limited users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond."

Aero seems to be disabled also and cannot be fixed without a restart.  This problem is getting to be bothersome and I need to know if it could be hardware related.  Thank you in advance for you help.

This works!!! 

 Reset the Winsock Catalog

  1. Open a Command Prompt as an Administrator.
  2. Type “netsh winsock reset” (without quotes) and press Enter.
  3. Restart the computer.

Hi,

Since when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any software or hardware changes to the computer recently?

Check if the System Event Notification Service is running or not. To check for the services

1.      Click on Start

2.      In the start Search box type Services

3.      Right Click on - RUN AS ADMIN

Check if the below mentioned services has the mentioned status and start up type.

System Event Notification Service            Started                 Automatic

Also, check the dependency services that are required for System Restore Service to run.

To check that double click on the service and click on the dependency tab.

For the system being slow you may try to improve the performance by optimizing Windows and check if that helps. Follow the link given below on how to optimize Windows.

The aero issue can be resolved by installing or reinstalling the updated graphics card drivers. You may check if any update for the Graphics card is available for your computer from the computer manufacturer.

    Sorry it didn't wotk for you. I too have had issues in the past uninstalling 'problem' devices that insist on returning after a reboot.

    The difference here, I think is that there was no uninstall option on the devices properties dialogue, suggesting there were no drivers installed; so I used the context (right click) menu on the device listing to access uninstall. In your case the issue was probably drivers not installed correctly, corrupted or some othe MS glitch which meant when you uninstalled, the drivers were there and installed themselves again, albeit incorrectly, therefore the devices won't go away.

    Hey,

    A promised, here are my results:

    -The device manager listed 7 unknown "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" which I uninstaled.

    -I restarted the computer and they where back....

    The "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" probably originate from a recently used wireless mouse and/or an HTC phone. Because I did not use any other bluetooth device.

    But in the mean time an other problem got worse: windows freezes during use of internet or during windows update. The only solution is a hard reset via the power button (or let it hibernate but what is the point of that?) I also cannot find a solution for that problem ... That means a clean install :( waisted an other day.

    So I hoop to never return here.....bye bye ...for now...
