How to play FLAC file with Windows Media Player 12

Is there any way to play Flac files with Windows Media Player 12?  A hefty percentage of my music library is FLAC.

Thank you for your inquiry.

The Flac extension is not a supported file type of Windows Media Player. You may however user your favorite search engine to search for a solution that may convert the file to a Windows Media Player supported file type.

    ElZiffo, what exactly isn't working, playing FLAC files or having them added to the library? If you get any error messages, what's their exact text?

    Did you try to install the most recent version of the DirectShow filters at http://xiph.org/dshow/downloads ?

    Your earlier post says you have it working. So not sure on what configuration it doesn't work for you.

    Open source licenses may require that any software that packages them adopt the same license e.g.CopyLeft "copyleft is a general method for making a program (or other work) free, and requiring all modified and extended versions of the program to be free as well."

    Thin Ice....I've tried that as I posted above it does not work.

    It is lame that MS won't provide the appropriate codecs native in the MP12 client to handle FLAC.  I'd love for you to explain what licensing implications MS has with supporting open source code!  LOL

    Ignore the negative responses here. Media Player is extensible via installable codecs and other plugins, and has been for many versions.

    It's not always possible for Microsoft to add open-source formats because of the license implications for Windows.
