As the title says, I want to have my speakers and my HDMI to play at the same time from the same application, I've only been able to select one OR the other as default device: If I: Select speker as default device Start playing something (and can of course hear it from the speakers) Select HDMI as default device Then: Speakers stop playing HDMI starts playing I just want both to be playing together. It took some time searching around but I finally managed to find an answer by myself, I'm posting the solution here in case anyone has a similar issue: Open Sound panel Select Speakers as the default playback device Go to the "Recording" tab Right click and enable "Show Disabled Devices" A recording device called "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix" (this was my case) should appear Right click on the new device and click "Enable" Right click on the new device and click "Set as Default Device" Double click on the new device to open the Properties window Go to the "Listen" tab Click on the "Listen to this device" checkbox Select your HDMI device from the "Playback through this device" list And you're done, the drawback is that you won't have a microphone selected as default recording device, but for what concerns me I couldn't care less.

You are the man!!! I tried this a while ago with my HTPC running Vista and I don't recall seeing the options for steps 5-11. But now that I've upgraded my HTPC with Windows 7-64, those options were there. Works like a charm!!!!!! It's perfect for listening to a game or tv while outside, or for parties when streaming youtube videos or other music channels. Whenever I want to watch a movie or program in surround sound, I simply set the HDMI audio as the default playback device without having to remove the stereo jack from my pc. With Vista, I had to physically remove the headphone jack to re-enable HDMI audio. Not anymore!! (Shuttle SG45H7, intel G45 express chipset, onboard HDMI video/audio, onboard realtek HD audio, Win7-64 bit, Onkyo TX-SR608 Receiver)

You guys should think yourselves lucky, cannot even get sound from HDMI only here. When I play a movie via HDMI to HDTV i get sound on laptop and nowhere else..
