One Month Battery Life MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000

I purchased this mouse a few months ago, and use it daily.  I'm very happy with the performance, but not with the battery life.

I am forced to replace the battery every month, almost to the day.

The mouse is used primarily with my desktop system, both in my web development work, and general usage.  I estimate my active use at 8 hours daily, but my systems are powered on all the time.

I have used new name brand alkaline batteries (Energizer, Duracell) and the last 2 months, Energizer Lithium batteries, with no difference.

It's impractical for me to turn the mouse on and off throughout the day.

The packaging claims up to 10 months of battery life - obviously I'm not getting anywhere near that.

I have the latest intellipoint drivers and otherwise my Win 7/64 system is up to date.

Do you have any ideas why I'm having this issue, and what I might be able to do about it?

Thanks in advance - as I said, I love the mouse, but the battery costs are eating me alive!

Have you tried contacting MS support about getting it exchanged/replaced? How about the place you bought it? I've had a few wireless mice, and their batteries have all lasted longer than a month, but only one has lasted as long as 10 months. I have a MS Natural Wireless Laser 6000 that they last 6 months, almost to the day. But the batteries in my Logitech V470 Bluetooth Notebook mouse last about 4 months, and it's turned off more than on.

I think you have a defective mouse, but I'm sure neither your merchant nor Microsoft would take my word for it :-)

    So,

    I called Microsoft today since I got all the emails from people replying to this thread. Even though it's two-three years old...it still holds true for this mouse.

    If you want to go through the hassle of returning the item to Microsoft, they will replace it for free. The only catch is that YOU have to pay for the shipping to them. Then it takes about 7 business days from receipt to get it back total (including time in the mail back from MS).

    They are actually very nice on the phone. I spoke with a young woman named Kate. She said she would expedite it if I wanted to send it back to them for a free replacement. Can I do without a wireless mouse for a week? Yes. Two weeks? Yes. So I'm just wondering if 5 bucks is worth the shipping to Microsoft. I don't have my receipt or packaging. It seems like they are well aware of the issue and are willing to give refunds as well if you have the receipt and cost of shipping to them (instead of the cost of replacement).

    So there are options. I asked if they would mail me one and for them to have a c/c on file so if they don't get the one I currently own back and she kindly said no. She was very nice to speak with though. I thought I would get an earful. She was understanding and I would probably get the new mouse in a week if I wanted to mail it out (PLUS A FREE BATTERY IF IT COMES WITH IT!). Haha.

    My Microsoft wireless mouse batteries only last about a month. Microsoft replaced my mouse twice but the battery life didn't improve. I turn off my mouse at night and that does improve the battery life, but my computer is one 18 hours a day so I buy batteries in bulk.

    I believe the name has something to do with the lack of the 10-month battery life; it is mystical but explains why three different Microsoft mice all used up battery life in a short time. A mouse is a creature that is easily frightened and a small (micro), easy-going (soft) mouse is at risk in a frightened, unbelieving world (in the last days, men's hearts will be failing them for fear). People do have a tendency to walk on me, but I've started standing up for myself. I copied this from the internet. "There comes a point in life when you stop bending over backward for people and start bending forward, so they can kiss your ****." Whether or not the name has anything to do with the Microsoft mouse, this does work for me.

    I talked to a Microsoft technician and told him I planned to used rechargeable batteries, but he said no they were not good for the mouse.  I turn off my mouse at night now and the battery does last longer.  I buy a large pack of batteries to have on hand.  My computer is on 18 hours a day.  I play computer games and like the wireless mouse for that.

    I've turned it off at night and any other time not in use as long as I've had it. Still never had more than a fraction of the battery life it claims.
