Monitor won't wake up when coming back from sleep (Windows 7)

I recently upgraded my Dell Dimension desktop to Windows 7. In order to do so, I had to install a new grapchis card (NVIDIA GeForce).

I set the PC to sleep after a period of time. When I go to move the mouse and wake the computer back up, the PC itself seems to respond, but the monitor never comes back from sleep. I have no choice but to reboot to get the monitor back.

Any suggestions?

A Universal fix would be ideal but - ASUS appears in 14 out of the 16 pages in this thread!!! Not saying everybody having this problem has an ASUS motherboard but if they do, and it seems a high percentage of people do, then they need todisable the PLL Overvoltage in their BIOS!!

IT ACTUALLY WORKS! Not just a workaround, my Computer AND Monitor now both wake from sleep by simply moving the mouse!

Also, obviously only people who have this problem are going to come here. If this is a wide-spread Windows 7 problem, then what about all the complaints large companies like HP Compaq and DELL etc would receive when their customers have the same problem? If they received many complaints and being that  they have a much bigger voice than us they would simply demand Microsoft fix it. I also have a TOSHIBA laptop running windows 7 and it sleeps and wakes just fine.

So if anybody who has friends or family who own a 2011 Dell, Acer or HP etc that came out brand new, factory loaded with Windows 7  please ask them if they have this issue or not. (These companies may have had this problem initially but I would imagine it would be fixed by now??!!)

A lot of people who have this problem also seem to have a separate Video Card (I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 which of course the monitor is connected to) Do any people who are using integrated graphics also have this problem such as people with an H67 mobo?

I am curious as to what percentage of Windows 7 users have this problem. We may find we are in the 1% bracket and 99% of Windows 7 users don't have this problem. It may just be incompatibility of Windows 7  with either our hardware or settings.

In my case disabling PLL Overvoltage works! :-)

    I have a Desk Top, the Brand makes little difference, or even that it's a Desk Top.

    My Problem turned out to be the "Inverter Board".

    Inside your Monitor are many small Florescent Lights (tubes) and they behave like regular Florescent lights

    when they start to go out. They Flicker, and Stall, or not come on at all. That's when we start Flipping the

    switch up and down, turning it on and off, in hopes of it coming on. But sooner or later, they finally give out.

    ~~ Seems that there IS / WAS a Class-Action Lawsuit on some of the FINE MAKERS of our most Favorite

    Monitors. It turns out that they were Purposely putting BAD PARTS in Our Machines. (we all could make a

    speech here, so I won't bore you with mine)  They were putting in BAD CAPACITORS.

    ALTHOUGH, SAMSUNG is mentioned, You Should Check It out to see if Your Brand is in there as well. 

    ANYWAY, THIS MAY NOT BE YOUR PROBLEM, but for Many of Us, it IS the Problem.

    If you paid to have yours Fixed, then You've Got Some Money Coming Your Way.

    I Searched on Google under  "Class action lawsuit faulty Monitors" (there are many) and I got

    much of my "Info" from this one.

    ~~ If you're Handy with a Soldering Gun, and a Screwdriver, and can Remember where the screws go,

    and Know How to Clip and Unclip Wiring Harnesses, THEN it's Not Too hard to Repair it yourself.

    There are many "Tutorials" on the "Net", and many on "YouTube" that will show you "The Way".

    ALSO, Check for the AVAILABILITY of your Parts ! That WAS My Biggest Problem !

    NOT Only did they put Bad Parts IN, But Then, Trying to FIND My "Inverter Board" was Impossible !

    You may have to Solider in Each Capacitor if you can't find the Right Board.

    Again, your Problem may be different than mine.

    Hello ,  go to bios and chabnge, Primary Adapter TO "PCI" ,  i had the same problem ,

    i have RAdeon 7700  in PCI - E , but in bios i put" PCI"

    " Primary Adapter " ===>      "PCI" ,

    so at the moment it's solves my problem , hope it will work for you :-)

    I have an HP (desktop) "that came brand new factory loaded with Windows7" Home Premium,  purchased in Summer 2010.  Started having this problem in Fall 2010.  Troubleshooted with tech help...set  power settings to NEVER sleep...eventually reset to factory.  Nothing worked.  Problem initially occurred maybe once a week-eventually one or more times per day.  I'd turn on the computer and before windows even started I got "Monitor Going to Sleep."  Spring 2011 sent it back to HP.  They sent it back to me stating that it must be a Microsoft problem and  they couldn't reproduce the problem but that they reset me to factory settings -again.  Worked fine for maybe 2 weeks -then started random sleeping again.  I've read many discussion on these tech forums and tried the solutions.  So far nothing's worked...Today,  I have a very expensive paperweight.

    I just thought of a SOLUTION...Install Linux.
