when I delete a file in windows explorer it still shows there - I have to switch to a different directory and back, then the file name of the deleted file disappears. How can windoes explorer be configured so that deleted files disappear there immediately?

To me, this has been often happening, especially with small files. I don't know how to specify small, but several KB files has been acting up ever since XP. I don't know where the issue is, but I even remember burning a TXT file on a CD once and it opened with the contents of another file with the same name/path from another CD. This is ridiculous. It hasn't been happening to me with larger files though, and neither is it happening with certain file types. A PDF, however small, always disappears when I delete.

I purchased a new Toshiba notebook, and have problems with deleting files; and refreshing does not seem to help. It is intermittent. Sometimes I delete or move a file but the name still exists in the folder. There are also times that I am unable to either delete or move a file and the system tells me it is in use or locked (Other than Guest, I am the only user account). My work around almost always requires me to completely exit and relaunch windows explorer. This is VERY VERY VERY frustrating!!!...to the point that I may well buy a Mac next time around. This has to be a system bug, yet other than these forums, I can not find any reference to this problem on the Microsoft Website.

I mentioned this, becuase i do not recall of having the probem until recently. Although folder refresh was sometimes slow before(where the green bar would come across windows explorer and seem like it would never end). When this happened sometimes, I did a reboot and the problem seem to go away for the near term. it may have something to do with network drives via drive letters??? but again, i think this has occured in both by c: and d: too. this computer is ported between my workplace and at home. At home I use a wireless network and also using microsoft VPN to connect through to my workplace. I remember windows XP having a ____ of time switchin between enviroments. Windows 7 does a much better job, but switching between environments maybe the root cause. In either case; microsoft stil should fix the "GREEN BAR" problem and the above problem. THE ABOVE PROBLEM OF "NEW FOLDERS" NOT APPEARING IS REALLY BAD. Hello Everyone,

As TavisB said that this didn’t occur on his guest account before he reinstalled. That means that a corrupted profile can cause this issue, let’s try creating a new account to see if that solves the problem. If the new account works correctly, I’ll provide steps to transferring over your user files.

· Click Start

· Enter User Accounts into the search field

· Press Enter on your keyboard

· Click Manage another Account

· Click Create a new account

· Type the name of the user account

· Click the account type (make it administrator if you are replacing an administrator account)

· Click Create Account

· Log off the current user

· Log into the new user

Try to replicate the problems experienced by your original profile. If the problem doesn’t occur then you just have to switch your documents over to this profile.

· Click Start

· Click Documents

· Click Tools (Press Alt if Tools isn’t visible)

· Click Folder Options…

· Click View

· Click Show hidden files and folders

· Clear Hide protected operating system files

· Click OK

· Navigate to this location C:\Users<old username>

· Select all files and folders except the Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini files

· Click Edit (Press Alt if not visible)

· Click Copy

· Locate the C:\Users<new username>

· Click Edit (Press Alt is not visible)

· Click Paste

· Log off the new user

· Log back into the new user
