when I delete a file in windows explorer it still shows there - I have to switch to a different directory and back, then the file name of the deleted file disappears. How can windoes explorer be configured so that deleted files disappear there immediately?

Hello Everyone,

As TavisB said that this didn’t occur on his guest account before he reinstalled. That means that a corrupted profile can cause this issue, let’s try creating a new account to see if that solves the problem. If the new account works correctly, I’ll provide steps to transferring over your user files.

·         Click Start

·         Enter User Accounts into the search field

·         Press Enter on your keyboard

·         Click Manage another Account

·         Click Create a new account

·         Type the name of the user account

·         Click the account type (make it administrator if you are replacing an administrator account)

·         Click Create Account

·         Log off the current user

·         Log into the new user

Try to replicate the problems experienced by your original profile. If the problem doesn’t occur then you just have to switch your documents over to this profile.

·         Click Start

·         Click Documents

·         Click Tools (Press Alt if Tools isn’t visible)

·         Click Folder Options…

·         Click View

·         Click Show hidden files and folders

·         Clear Hide protected operating system files

·         Click OK

·         Navigate to this location C:\Users<old username>

·         Select all files and folders except the Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log, and Ntuser.ini files

·         Click Edit (Press Alt if not visible)

·         Click Copy

·         Locate the C:\Users<new username>

·         Click Edit (Press Alt is not visible)

·         Click Paste

·         Log off the new user

·         Log back into the new user

Hope that helps, look forward to hearing back from you.

Tested on 3 workstations. It is definitely a bug in the 'Libraries' function. Deleting files from a C:\ path immediately deletes. Anything deleted from a Library path leaves the name with a zero file size. If you use Dropbox or OneDrive, it will remain until you refresh. If you leave the folder and immediately return, they will still show until all computers have been synched. Does not occur at all from a C:\ path. Microsoft should fix this Library bug!

I am still seeing this issue.  Is there a patch that will fix please?  I am using a company account and changing the account name is not an option.

    thank you!

Well... if that were true, it would be true all the time, not intermittently.  Also, I have a compelling reason, as a support tech to keep my "View Hidden Files" option on.  Lastly, my experience is that if the operating system does what you say it would be documented somewhere, but I have never seen documentation to support that. As others have pointed out, it only seems to happen in the "Library pathway".
