Error Code 1-80004005

Error Code 1-80004005 after reinstalling FSX on Vista. Activation form doesn't load therefore, there's no way to activate it. Observed several discussions on this using Google searches but never found a specific answer. Have tried the FSX installation DVD Repair option but no help there.

Well, I seemed to have fixed this myself. After reading through http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960481, I saw the mention of uninstalling FSX SP2 but for a different problem. I went to the control panel and under programs and features I found that it didn't show the FSX program nor SP1 but did show FSX SP2. So I uninstalled SP2. After that and just for the heck of it I thought I would try to fire up FSX and viola! the first thing that appeared was the activation form that I was unable to get earlier. I filled in the key code from my box, was accepted and now I appear to be running OK. I still haven't reinstalled SP2 yet as I am still flying around and resetting my settings that I had originally.

    1. run regedit (Windowskey +R)

    1. Expand the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTRO L\CLASS{4D36E967-

    E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    1. After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.
    2. Change the value from 0 to PartMgr and/or remove any other settings and then click OK.

    5. Close Registry Editor

    1. Start FSX/Accel and you should get the registration wizard.  I did. Thanks to Vic for the tip!

    I am using Windows 10, 64 bit and I had this issue with an installation.

    I went around and around with these instructions, trying to find where I was going wrong. When I opened my registry at the above, all that was there was "partmgr". I left it alone for the longest time, but then I noticed that the post says "PartMgr" - the capitalization matters in this case, because when I changed mine for the all lowercase to the one shown, it worked just fine.

    I was getting error 1-80004005 until I edited my registry as Jeffrey mentioned, and the activation window did come up next time I started FSX. But when I entered my product key and tried to activate, I got an error: "A technical problem occurred while accessing the online server." I tried again a few times but got the same thing.

    I also tried to activate by telephone, but when I did so I got another error: "Failed to retrieve the product installation ID required to perform telephone activation..." and it suggested reinstalling.

    Any suggestions, or is it looking like I really do need to reinstall?
