I can't check for, download or install updates through Windows Update. HELP!

Anilsethia: This is for Windows Vista, you have to get the right forum. As for the fixit not working you may have deeper issues and should try to repair Windows.

I get File association error (it says File type unknown and Window does not recognise this file type) when I click on Microsoft Fix it button.

My system is XP home edition SP3
Try running the System File Checker and see if it can replace the damaged file.
If it cannot, see the second MS KB to learn which files can not be replaced/repaired automatically and how to replace them manually.
