Warner Music CD's sound is distorted on Dell Windows 7 computer

I have a new Dell computer operating on Windows 7. Some cd's will not play or download on Windows Media Player or iTunes as the sound is totally distorted. These same cd's were fine on my old Dell with Windows XP. The cd's also play on Hi Fi's and other computers without any problems. Is this a problem with Windows 7? (all the cd's seem to be produced by Warner Music or their associated companies).

Any help would be appreciated.

I would suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Configure a device.‌ If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

I would also suggest you to install the latest sound drivers compatible for Windows 7 from the manufacturer’s website.

I have the same problem on a 1 year old Mesh running XP Professional so its is not a Windows7 problem. Gnarls Barkley St. Elsewhere (WB) and a TSSTcorp CDDVD SH-S223B CDDVDW drive.

Hi, I have the exact same issues using a Dell Vostro and Windows 7, and yes, the fuzzy sounding CDs are by Warner. I've tried some of the recommended fixes, but to no avail. However, I just plugged in an external USB DVD drive and inserted one of the fuzzy sounding CDs (Liebling by Andreas Johnson). Guess what - perfect. I just ripped it into iTunes to make sure and it plays back perfectly. I hope this helps you guys!

The Dell and Samsung models mentioned are Intel-based, so it doesn't look like the processor is the problem.

Windows 7 or win7-specific drivers possibly. If someone has a partition where Vista can be installed in dual boot on the same machine, it would be easy to verify if the CD that doesn't play on Windows 7 plays on Vista using the same CD drive.

Hey guys,

I've read somewhere that this is an issue with Windows 7 and recent AMD processors. I'm not that fussed being linux guy, but it's definitely causing my g/f some gripe. I don't believe this is going to be fixed with firmware updates, replacement parts, or any time soon. For now you will have to rip on another computer and transfer across. Hurry up m-soft, for my g/f's (my) sanity!
