How do I add search filters?

I too am tired of evasive obviously cut and pasted stock answers. I suggest we all start reporting repeated pasted answers as abusive. Since they are in effect self promoting unhelpful spam.

As to the actual search problem you guys all know the answer. It's the leaf cutter ant approach to marketing. M$ knows very well what you want, indeed they paid for that information. But they have to have selling points for the next version. They have been removing and adding and breaking and fixing features in staggered pattern since dos to create the illusion of progress.

That's standard practice with large software developers.

Put simply they broke search so they could look attentive fixing it later.

So, is it just me or did this 'Happy Helper' NOT answer the basic question:

How do WE affix, annex, ante, append, augment, beef up, boost, build up, charge up, continue, cue in, figure in, flesh out, heat up, hike, hike up, hitch on, hook on, hook up with, include, jack up, jazz up, join together, pad, parlay, piggyback, plug into, pour it on, reply, run up, say further, slap on, snowball, soup up, speed up, spike, step up, supplement, sweeten, tack on, tag MORE FILTERS to the search...

I don't know of anymore words that can describe WHAT WE ALL WANT TO KNOW!!!!

I also am experiencing the same problems. The responders don't seem to have understood the request that they we lonly see2 items in the list of search criteria and by default weonly see "Date Modified" and "Size", no matter how wide the screen is or what advanced search options are enabled

 

I would really like to see Type or Name for example - anyone know WHY we can't see these options by default on our Win7 search? and how I can add them?

I too would like to see "Type" and "Name" as options in the "Add search filters" dropdown selections.  Any word from Microsoft if they plan to add more than "Date Modified" and "Size" to the list of search filters?   What they have to the search dialog here in Windows 7 is a step backward in usability for the average user.  Silly that I have to keep googling the "Windows Search Advanced Syntax" reference page every time I want to search for something other than Date Modified or Size.

I appreciate the short list of query syntax, but how is this, or more importantly how is the 10 page list of search syntax functions easier than having a UI with a dropdown of searchable fields? How is an average Windows 7 user expected to know that searches require learning pages of syntax? Look at the masses of people on just this forum having issues with it. Was there anywhere near this level of concern with the Win XP advanced search? I would have to assume not.

I needed to find a file created today of a particular file type and it took me 20 minutes to do that (Much of the time was on this forum reading how to enter the syntax) and I still don't trust the results. 

Maybe this truly is more powerful once you know all the search criteria names and how to use them, but this seems like a massive leap backwards and none of the responders seem to address how this search tool can ever be either quick or intuitive for advanced searches. 

That might have been a rant, but I'm frustrated like everyone else it seems. I've got to now download a google app to perform a function that worked just fine on Windows 95.
