Music flickers/crackles in Windows Media Player when browsing the Internet

HI - I just got a new PC with Windows 7.  It's an HP Pavillion Slimline with 3GB Memory and an Intel duo core processor.  I'm finding that when I play MP3s or WMAs via Windows Media Player that the sound crackles (sounds like static) when I browse the Internet using IE8.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated on how to fix this annoying issue.

    Having tried several nics, I've found that there's a huge difference. Some peg into the red right away (on the DPC Latency Checker), others take a short while, and one I found will run a whole day before it causes coughing an sputtering over audio.

    Mine only takes about 30-45 minutes untill it's in the high red.  After a couple of hours it is so high it goes off the charts.

    Here's my nasty workaround, seeing as there appears to be no resolution for the problem. I've created a batch file with the command "shutdown -r -f -t 10" and used Task Scheduler to run the .bat every morning to reboot the computer. Since the DPC spikes take about a day to start occurring, this mostly works.

    Ive Tried 3 different laptops...all different makes. So let me just list the one currently doing it.

    Asus G72gx-- 64bit-- GeforceGTX260M--6gigs DDR3--Intel P8700 DualCore. All latest drivers updated and installed.

    Custom cooling adaptable to any Notebook PC :)

    Does everything accept what i really want it to do....play good audio.

    The problem is those classic OS's are expensive and hard to find.  I think I'm just gonna give linux a shot even though it can't run all the great programs I'm used to.  At least it should work.
