I cannot download pictures from my iphone to my PC. The PC recognizes itunes and syncs with the iphone. However, the pc does not recognize the iphone as an external device (i.e. camera).  Therefore, I do not see the iphone under the computer as a device options. Also, I checked the settings on autoload and they are correct, however the PC still does not recognize nor does it autoload the Iphone. I spoke with apple tech support and they said it is not a problem with the iphone but instead it is a problem with Microsoft. can you please help me?

Hi Byron R.

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers Forums!

1.       Were you able to download pictures from Iphone earlier?

2.       Any recent changes made on your computer?

3.       Are you getting any error while downloading pictures?

You may try this method.

If you click start and within the start search type auto play you then should see auto play populate under programs select auto play.

Once in Auto play scroll down to Devices and see if you see your Iphone within devices click the drop down box and set to import pictures using windows then click ok then plug you Iphone and see if it lets you import.

Also if you want it to ask you what action you want to take whenever you plug in your Iphone just select "ask me every time" from the Auto play.

The Iphone will not transfer photos to your computer if the device is locked and you are using a pass code. If you want to transfer photos, simply unlock (Slide to unlock and enter pass code) your device to transfer photos.

Note: Plug the Iphone to your computer in unlocked mode.

For more information on importing pictures refer  to this link:

It is now 5 years later and I am using Windows 7 and the iPhone problem still exists. I have little confidence in Apple tech support or most anything they say. I've spent many days and hours at a time with Apple techs trying to find out why many of my pictures were compressed when there was a change to the Photo Library and full size pictures are kept in iCloud.  Techs tried the corrupt picture story but there was no way to see what pictures because I have so many. The entire transition was a mess and Apple techs admitted no one really understood how pictures work in iOS. End result I am just out of luck with many pictures. We are now up to iOS 9.0.4 and new picture problems. For many months, when I plugged in my iPhone to my Win 7 pc, after a few moments, a small window opened and showed Windows searching the iPhone for pictures and eventually all were copied to the computer. Suddenly after November 4 sometime, the iPhone is no longer recognized in Windows Explorer and the option to copy pictures no longer appears. The auto play settings are correct and the iPhone is set to trust the computer. I don't know how to get my pictures using iTunes anymore because all it says within iTunes is photos are in the photo library. But there is no way to get more than 1 pictures at a time from iCloud.com. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
