I cannot download pictures from my iphone to my PC. The PC recognizes itunes and syncs with the iphone. However, the pc does not recognize the iphone as an external device (i.e. camera).  Therefore, I do not see the iphone under the computer as a device options. Also, I checked the settings on autoload and they are correct, however the PC still does not recognize nor does it autoload the Iphone. I spoke with apple tech support and they said it is not a problem with the iphone but instead it is a problem with Microsoft. can you please help me?

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers Forums!

1.       Were you able to download pictures from Iphone earlier?

2.       Any recent changes made on your computer?

3.       Are you getting any error while downloading pictures?

You may try this method.

If you click start and within the start search type auto play you then should see auto play populate under programs select auto play.

Once in Auto play scroll down to Devices and see if you see your Iphone within devices click the drop down box and set to import pictures using windows then click ok then plug you Iphone and see if it lets you import.

Also if you want it to ask you what action you want to take whenever you plug in your Iphone just select "ask me every time" from the Auto play.

The Iphone will not transfer photos to your computer if the device is locked and you are using a pass code. If you want to transfer photos, simply unlock (Slide to unlock and enter pass code) your device to transfer photos.

Note: Plug the Iphone to your computer in unlocked mode.

    Spot on! Had one photo in my album that a friend sent to me and as soon as I deleted it I could connect fine... very bizarre feature!!! Hope that sort that one soon!

    If nothing else works try this: connect your iphone to a computer that hasn't got itunes installed. It will recognise your iphone as a camera. then you can drag n drop you pics.

    Hi Uma (or anybody else),

    Can you please specify:

    Om ,y computer which runs on Windows XP, when I go to the Atart\ Search, it asks me what I want to search for. Which option should I choose here?

    I have spent hours trying to figure out how to make my PC detect my iPhone so I can download my vacation pictures......

    -so, many thanks for any tips that help solve this issue!

    Here is a  simple solution that works:

    • Connect your iPhone to your PC
    • Open Device Manager (click Start and type Device; the Device Manager will be listed at the top)
    • Under Portable Devices find the icon "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver"
    • Right click on the icon and select "Disable".  A small down arrow will indicate that the device is now disabled
    • Right click again on the icon and select "Enable"
    • A new icon will be added for "Apple iPhone"

    You will now be able to accsss the images stored on the iPhone using Explorer.

    Problem solved.  Good luck.
