I cannot download pictures from my iphone to my PC. The PC recognizes itunes and syncs with the iphone. However, the pc does not recognize the iphone as an external device (i.e. camera).  Therefore, I do not see the iphone under the computer as a device options. Also, I checked the settings on autoload and they are correct, however the PC still does not recognize nor does it autoload the Iphone. I spoke with apple tech support and they said it is not a problem with the iphone but instead it is a problem with Microsoft. can you please help me?

Hi Byron R.

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers Forums!

1.       Were you able to download pictures from Iphone earlier?

2.       Any recent changes made on your computer?

3.       Are you getting any error while downloading pictures?

You may try this method.

If you click start and within the start search type auto play you then should see auto play populate under programs select auto play.

Once in Auto play scroll down to Devices and see if you see your Iphone within devices click the drop down box and set to import pictures using windows then click ok then plug you Iphone and see if it lets you import.

Also if you want it to ask you what action you want to take whenever you plug in your Iphone just select "ask me every time" from the Auto play.

The Iphone will not transfer photos to your computer if the device is locked and you are using a pass code. If you want to transfer photos, simply unlock (Slide to unlock and enter pass code) your device to transfer photos.

Note: Plug the Iphone to your computer in unlocked mode.

For more information on importing pictures refer  to this link:

Thank you so much, after so much searching your answer fixed the problem.

Remove the pictures your've tranfered to camera roll - which you haven't take via the iphone.

I was getting worried that I would never view the pictures - such a simple fix and it cured the problem straight away.

(My husband phone had no issues and I plugged his in and it worked immediately and the issue was I'd moved photos via camera roll)

Had similar problem with Vista not showing the Iphone Device in My Computer.  My problem revolved around the USB Mass Storage Driver.  I have  RealTek USB 2.0 device in my computer and there were new drivers installed that changed the driver to the RealTek driver from the windows "USB Mass Storage Device" generic driver.  So I switched it back to the generic driver and now everything works.

    1)  Go to Device Manager

    2)  Go to usb section - find usb device a like (RealTek 2.0 USB card reader. etc)

    3)  Go to properties - update driver - choose from list

    4)  Browse to "USB Mass Storage Device"  published by Microsoft...

This worked for me - make sure to note down your changes and the location of your current drivers just in case you have to revert back to them at some time or this does not work for you...
