Windows Media Player 12: Always show list

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my computer to Windows 7.

When I was on XP, the list pane of WMP 11 was always displayed in the right part of the screen (except in full screen mode).

Now on WMP 12, I have to manually right-click and choose "Show list" each time I open WMPand each time a new video starts .

Could you tell me how to permanently display the list pane ?

There is no way to get or save the "list pane" in Windows Media Player 12. You must create a playlist to see your play list pane.

I've been playing around with this for hours trying to get the same thing your tyring to get.  Microsoft has changed alot in version Windows Media Player 12. The last version of windows media player 11 is the only version that can show the playing list pane.

    Ke4aht   Have you tried to reinstall windows? it should work

    Unacceptable.  If so many of us are experiencing this, do you think we all failed to install Win 7 correctly?  If MS doesn't fix this, maybe I'll just transition to Ubuntu.  Forget my WIn 8 $$$$.

    Just adding my voice to this.  WMP is frustrating.  The way I access my videos is to go into windows explorer, highlight the videos I want to play, right-click on the first one, and then hit "play".  With WMP 11, it would just open up maximized (the last way I closed it), and the play list panel was there with all the videos I selected in a nice temporary list.  I didn't have to save a list.  I don't want to save lists.

    Now just tonight, I tried that same thing, and the list wasn't there.  I ignored it and kept watching my video, but then it stopped after the first one.  Didn't even play the whole list.  I had to search the internet, and eventually found out that right clicking on the title bar has an option to show the list even while playing.  And that was great... it played through my list again.  But then I closed WMP and tried again, hoping it would remember the settings I wanted... but the list was gone again.

    It's frustrating.  I hope that it will be repaired in an update soon.

    It's interesting that until now, the original problem of WMP12 not remembering the state of the LIST PANE is still there. Every time you run WMP (with videos in my case) you have to right click and hit SHOW LIST.

    Others seemed focused on the video side, I don't use WMP for video's so I couldn't say if it works on that or not but if you have problems with MP3's maybe it's something to try. 

    With MP3s (didn't try any other audio formats), this does seem to work.

    But it does not change the functionality for videos.

    While re-installing might, in some instances, fix the problem, that is an unacceptable solution.

    1. It is a work-around, not a solution.
    2. Not everyone who uses WMP does so on a computer they own.
    3. Not everyone has a convenient copy of their Windows DVDs.
    4. The amount of labor that solution requires for the end-user is MASSIVELY disproportionate to the problem.
    5. Not everyone is tech-savvy enough to re-install Windows.  (You can make fun of people all you want, but insulting someone's lack of knowledge and expertise is also not a solution--computers are used by more than technophiles.)

    This dumbing down of the UI is something I'd expect from Apple, not Microsoft.  It is not the only dumbing-down that occurred in Windows 7.  (Windows picture viewer ... no right click > Send To option anymore.  Other people have mentioned more.)

    Yup, that's right, I went there... because it is true.
